From a quick ₹5 snack to a generous family-sized indulgence, Reliance Consumer Products Limited (RCPL) is looking to make every biscuit break count in Tamil Nadu. With nine new variants, 28 additional stock-keeping units (SKUs), accessible price points and a high-profile association with Ajith Kumar Racing, the FMCG major is sharpening its competitive edge in one of India’s important consumer markets. The expansion under its Independence brand reflects an ambitious strategy to reach more households, cater to diverse taste preferences and build a stronger presence across everyday and indulgent snacking occasions.
RCPL, the FMCG arm of Reliance Industries Limited, announced the expansion of its Independence biscuit portfolio on Monday, with the enlarged range becoming available across Tamil Nadu from November 2, 2026.
The move reinforces the company’s ambition to scale up its biscuit business through a diversified product portfolio, competitive pricing and an extensive distribution network. Tamil Nadu is a strategically important market for RCPL, where enhanced production capacity is expected to support higher volumes, strengthen market penetration and expand consumer reach.
Something for every palate and pockets
The expanded portfolio comprises Independence Power Up, Independence Butter Bliss, Independence Milky Power, Independence Marie Prime, Independence Coco Vanilla & Chocolate, Independence CremYum Orange, Independence CremYum Choco, Independence Coco Bourbon and Independence Glucose Boost.
Designed to address different consumer preferences and consumption occasions, the range will be available in trial packs at ₹5, sharing packs at ₹10 and larger home packs priced between ₹40 and ₹125.
Leading the expansion are Independence Power Up and Independence Milky Power. Power Up combines milk, glucose and protein in a single biscuit, offering a differentiated proposition in the everyday biscuit category.
Explaining the company’s strategy, T Krishnakumar, Director, Reliance Consumer Products Limited, said, “Tamil Nadu is a key market for our biscuit business, and our focus is on expanding our portfolio to address evolving consumer preferences while building scale. Milk biscuits are well established in household consumption, and with Independence Power Up Biscuits, we are building on this familiarity through a differentiated offering that brings together milk, glucose and protein in one product. Our broader portfolio reflects our philosophy of ‘Each Consumer, Each Occasion’—identifying opportunities across consumer needs and translating insights into relevant products that deliver greater value.”
Ajith Kumar Racing adds horsepower
Adding a distinctive dimension to the expansion, Independence Power Up is backed by RCPL’s brand association with Ajith Kumar Racing. The collaboration connects the product’s differentiated positioning with the performance-driven ethos and competitive spirit of motorsport.
The association is expected to strengthen brand visibility and consumer awareness in Tamil Nadu, providing the Independence portfolio with an additional platform to engage audiences, particularly motorsport enthusiasts and younger consumers.
Wider reach through multiple channels
RCPL is adopting an omnichannel distribution strategy to ensure the expanded portfolio reaches consumers across different retail formats. The products will be available through general trade, national and regional modern trade outlets, e-commerce platforms, Reliance Retail and wholesale channels.
With accessible entry-level pricing, an expanded flavour range, product differentiation and a high-profile sporting association, Reliance Consumer is seeking to turn the Independence brand into a more formidable contender in Tamil Nadu’s biscuit market.
