Visamo Kids Foundation’s Urmila Makwana Secures 11,383 AIR in the competitive Exam; Plans To Pursue Medicine From AIIMS
Ahmedabad : Mafatbhai Makwana, a farmer and his wife, and Naniben – a homemaker from Indranaj village of Tarapur taluka in Anand, could not complete their education even till the high school. Today they are overjoyed as their daughter, Urmila, cracked the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) and is all set to pursue her ambition of becoming a doctor. With support from Visamo Kids Foundation over the past 12 years, Urmila secured an All India Rank of 11,383 in the SC category, as NEET results were announced on Friday.
She scored 75% in class XII – science stream and 92% in class X and throughout her schooling, has actively participated in co-curricular activities in her school and at Visamo. Urmila’s achievement indeed brought accolades for Kalorex Group-run Visamo Kids Foundation. Through Visamo’s support and collaboration, she completed her schooling from Zydus School of Excellence in Godhavi till class X and later moved to Kameshwar School to pursue her higher secondary education.
An avid reader and painter, Urmila initially wanted to pursue arts and humanities. “I am fond of reading and writing both and thus, I wanted to pursue arts and literature as it is a subject of interest. However, I underwent an aptitude test which reflected that I have a better abilities for a career in medicine and my counsellor at Visamo convinced me that I should do what I am good at,” said Urmila, who hopes to secure admission at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Patna or Jodhpur.
“The support from Visamo was invaluable for me because it enabled me to get the best quality education, sharpen my skills and help realise my true potential. I also got a 50% scholarship from the private coaching institute where I took training for NEET,” she added.
Visamo Kids Foundation –houses at least 100 underprivileged kids right from the age of five, enabling their access to quality education in partnership with the finest English Medium schools in the city. Children stay at Visamo, while their lodging and boarding and other requirements are taken care of and through collaborations, are admitted to schools under CBSE, ICSE as well as the state education board.
