Prime Minister Modi praises Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation’s tree planting campaign in ‘Mann Ki Baat’
Inspired by the vision of the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, regarding ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ (one tree for the mother), the city of Ahmedabad is establishing itself as a model for sustainable urban development. In his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ address, Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the city for planting over 70 lakh trees and restoring water bodies through projects such as Sabarmati Riverfront and rejuvenation of the city’s lakes.
Building on this progress, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation’s initiative to plant three million trees has increased the city’s green cover. This initiative will help reduce the overall temperature and pollution in the city in the coming times.
“Water is life but trees are the soul of life’ – proving this motto right, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi launched the ‘Ek Ped Maan Ke Naam’ campaign on the previous World Environment Day, calling upon Indians and indeed everyone in the world to plant a tree as tribute to their mothers or in their mother’s company. As part of this campaign, the ‘Mission Three Million Trees’ campaign was launched by Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation under the guidance of Chief Minister Shri Bhupendrabhai Patel. Taking note of its success, the Prime Minister has now praised the work of the corporation.
The ’Mission Million Tree’ campaign is conducted every year by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation to increase the green cover in Ahmedabad city. Under this campaign, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation plans to plant 30 lakh trees in 100 days, and the target was completed this year wherein the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation planted trees in seven zones and 48 wards across the city.
We have a total of 147 large plots in which the tree plantation campaign was conducted.
To ensure tree plantation in many private societies of Ahmedabad city, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation also started a tree chariot campaign under the name ‘Ek Ped Maan Ke Naam’. During this campaign, citizens also sent information about tree plantation through the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation’s digital service app, and the corporation team provides saplings at the places decided by them.
In addition, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has decided to allocate one plot per zone, in which any citizen who is willing to plant trees but does not have the facilities of space can visit and plant trees.
Talking about the tree plantations done in Ahmedabad city in the last five years, a total of 11,66,387 tree plantations were planted in the year 2019-20, 10,13,856 in the year 2020-21, 12,82,014 in the year 2021-22, 20,75,431 in the year 2022-23 and more than 30 lakh tree plantations were done in the year 2023-2024.
