Birla Vishvakarma Mahavidyalaya Engineering College names new hostel in honour of Mr. A M Naik, Group Chairman, L&T. Birla Vishvakarma Mahavidyalaya Engineering College (BVM), located in the educational town of Vallabh Vidyanagar, Gujarat, has named its new hostel in honour of its eminent alumnus Mr. A M Naik, Group Chairman, Larsen & Toubro. The Hostel was inaugurated in the presence Shri Nitinbhai Patel, Deputy Chief Minister, Govt of Gujarat, Mr. Naik himself and the President, Charotar Vidya Mandal University, Shri Bhikhubhai Patel.
Mr. Naik, an alumnus of BVM Engineering College, completed his mechanical engineering from the institution of Charutar Vidya Mandal in 1963. The college named its new hostel as, AM Naik House of Scholars, after its distinguished alumnus in recognition of his outstanding contribution to Indian industry as the head of Larsen & Toubro, one of the country’s preeminent engineering and construction companies. He is also an inspirational figure in the domain of community service, having pledged 75 per cent of his income to philanthropy.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. A.M. Naik said, “It gives me immense pleasure to be associated with the Birla Vishvakarma Mahavidyalaya Engineering College. I am grateful for the education that they imparted to me as a student which was crucial in shaping my future. I am honored to have Shri Nitinbhai Patel, present with us during this joyous occasion. I hope that this institute will continue its selfless service of imparting quality education, and prepare the youth to build the future of this country. I extend my best wishes to the college.
President, Charotar Vidya Mandal University, Shri Bhikhubhai Patel stated, “It is with great pleasure we announce the opening of the new hostel building in our BVM Campus. Our AM Naik House of Scholars building is designed in strong sync with our educational philosophy and we look forward to coach more enthusiastic individuals and shape them into engineering professionals of the future.”
Established in 1948 in Gujarat, Birla Vishvakarma Mahavidyalaya Engineering College is one of the oldest in the country and also among the top engineering colleges in the state. Spread over an area of 18.96 acres, the college provides various UG and B.Tech courses in various fields.
Hailing from a family of teachers in South Gujarat, Mr. Naik is widely seen as a corporate icon, committed to nation-building and philanthropy. He has pledged 75 per cent of his income to uplift the poor and the needy. With special focus on education, skill-building and healthcare, he has set up two charitable trusts — the Naik Charitable Trust for education and skill training and the Nirali Memorial Medical Trust to provide advanced medical care to the community.
