In a major leap towards innovations in
design, students and the academic community of Karnavati University in
Uvarsad, Gandhinagar, made a record with some 156 Intellectual
Property (IP) filings on Saturday. The humungous achievement was
applauded and recognized by Shri Bhupendrasinh Chudasama, Minister of
Education, Government of Gujarat, at a felicitation ceremony organised
at Karnavati University’s campus, organised on Saturday.
Encouraging the student and academic community of the varsity, Shri
Chudasama, while delivering the keynote address, said, “Times are
changing. With technological advancement and rapid transformation
taking place in every field, people are looking for innovations.
Investors too are readily funding new ideas, paving way for
entrepreneurs.”
“Innovation must be a constant process and one should never be
satisfied. There must be a never-ending thirst for research,
development and innovation. The one who has these skills and the will
to excel will always win,” the Honourable Minister further added.
In line with its mission of being a Knowledge University, Karnavati
University undertook the rigorous task of producing and filing some
156 IPs of different innovations by students and academicians – all in
a single day on September 11. The record number of IP filings was the
fruit of the hard work and ingenuity of at least 144 student teams and
20 faculty members at Unitedworld Institute of Design (UID), which is
affiliated with Karnavati University. The initiative is inspired by
Government of Gujarat’s Student Startup and Innovation Policy (SSIP).
The 156 filings, which underwent three stages of vetting, include
seven patents, 77 design IPs, 59 copyright filings and 13 trademarks,
among others. The IPs filed were themed around mobility design,
automobile and transportation design, global design, fashion design,
textile, visual communications, product design, interior design,
lifestyle accessories design and animation and motion graphics.
The feat is indeed a realisation of the exceptional design education
practices adopted, encouraged and implemented by the Unitedworld
Institute of Design (UID) – an institution known for exceptional
quality of work and passion encouraging students pursue their creative
learning.
The felicitation ceremony was organised to celebrate intellectual
achievement of students and faculty members and the academic community
of Karnavati University. It was testimony to the collaborative
learning, working and education that has been encouraged by the
varsity from time to time. The entire exercise was facilitated by Mr.
Jaideep Bannerjee, Head of Incubation, Karnavati University.
During his welcome address, Dr. AKS Suryavanshi, Vice Chancellor
(Provost), Karnavati University, said, “SSIP is a great policy that is
very supportive towards innovations as well as entrepreneurship, for
students. The journey began six months back when a team of students
and faculty members, led by Col. Surojit Bose, Prof. Jayanti Panchal
and Mr. KK Singh undertook the ambitious task of preparing for filing
IP under various categories such as Patent, Design, Copyright and
Trademarks.”
Karnavati University’s ignited minds were motivated by Shri Ritesh
Hada, President of the varsity, to convert their ideas and innovations
into an IP. The team was further prepared and coached through series
of workshops organised by the varsity. The efforts were backed by
several hours of laboratory and studio work, in addition to a series
of one on one mentoring sessions with the Vice chancellor.
To further contribute to the setting up of a healthy startup ecosystem
in Gujarat, Karnavati University plans to support the student
innovations by facilitating research and development, design and
product development.
Karnavati University believes that the journey towards innovation has
commenced well and needs to have constant pursuit for excellence to
create Intellectual Property instruments – which is now its renewed
mission.
