869 students conferred degrees on the 4th convocation of Karnavati University.The fourth convocation ceremony of Karnavati University – ‘Convocation 2023’ – was held on Wednesday, November 8 at Karnavati University Campus. 869 students were awarded degrees in different streams and professional disciplines offered at the varsity, during the convocation ceremony of Karnavati University. The honourable Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral R Hari Kumar, Param Vishisht Seva Medal (PVSM), Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM) Vishisht Seva Medal (VSM) and aide-de-camp (ADC), remained present as the chief guest of the ceremony.

During the keynote address, Honourable Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral R Hari Kumar said, “We must move away from the colonial and archaic practices and in line with the PM’s vision, we must all free ourselves from the mentality of slavery.

Today we as a nation are steaming ahead to become the fully developed nation by 2047. This aspirational growth will be founded by the energy and enthusiasm of the youth. You are the Amrit Peedhi of Aspirational Bharat.”

“The aspirational growth of India is based on an export based economy. That is where the Indian Navy comes into picture.

We are Intrinsically connected to the sea and are committed to protecting India’s maritime trade and pursuing the country’s maritime interests. Today  95% of India’s trade by volume is directly or indirectly connected to the sea. The livelihood of every Bharatiya to be linked with the sea,” he further went on to say.

“The Indian Navy is actively looking after the National Maritime Heritage Complex at Lothal. In great pride for the Diamond City of Surat, India’s first naval ship will be named after a city. INS Surat will be commissioned next year and will reflect Bharat’s growing economic prowess in the world order,” Admiral Hari Kumar said during the keynote address.

Citing Colonel Powell, Admiral R Hari Kumar said, “Leadership is about solving problems. When people stop approaching you, it’s a failure of leadership.”

“We live in an egalitarian society.  We have moved from being the 10th largest to the 5th largest economy in less than a decade. We are poised to be the third largest economy by the end of this decade,” he added.

The Indian Navy contributes immensely to the Indian economy. The defence sector is a demand creator and with the indigenous innovations taking place in India, we are confident that the Indian Navy will become Aatmanirbhar by 2047.

“Over the years, we have received excellent response from industry and academia and I am confident that the Defence Design and Technology Incubator of India (DDTII) attached to Karnavati University will not just benefit from the Indian Navy’s innovations but also contribute to its growth, he further added.

Shilp Guru Sudarshan Sahoo, Padma Vibhushan & Padma Shri Recipient, Sculpture Artist from Orissa along with Shri Rajeev Sethi, Padma Bhushan Recipient, Designer and Scenographer; Dr Lalit Bhasin, Managing Partner, Bhasin and Company; Shri Sunil Parekh, Senior Strategy Advisor for renowned corporate groups, among others remained present as guests of honour at the varsity’s convocation ceremony.

In a moment of honour for the university,  Admiral R Hari Kumar awarded a degree of Honourary Doctorate in Literature by Karnavati University. Shri Ritesh Hada, president, Karnavati University conferred the degree, for Admiral R Hari Kumar’s immense contribution to the Indian Navy.

Other guests of honour, Shilp Guru, Shri Sudarshan Sahu, Shri Rajiv Sethi, Dr Lalit Bhasin, Mr Brajesh Kumar Singh and Mr Sunil Parekh, were also awarded Honourary degrees for Doctorate in Literature, by KU president, Shri Hada.

In his presidential address to the graduating students , Shri Ritesh Hada, said, “This University will always remain your home. As you step out of this campus, life will be different and difficult but in that journey, make your learnings here worthwhile.”

As the ceremony concluded, the Indian Naval Ship’s display cabinet was unveiled at the ceremony by Shri Hada and Honourable Admiral Hari Kumar.

Dr Rutvij Patel, Executive Director, United Group and former State President, Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) along with Mr Tariq Ali Saiyed, Registrar, Karnavati University; members of the Governing Body and Board of Management of Karnavati University, as well as the Deans and Directors of different schools at Karnavati University remained present at the Convocation 2023.

The students who received degrees included PhD Scholars, Post-Graduation Courses for Dental Surgery and Design along with graduation courses of Design, Dental Surgery, Arts (Honours), Commerce (Honours), Business Administration (Honours) and integrated BBA, LL. B (Honours).

Some 21 students were awarded gold medals for their achievements and academic excellence.

These include some 08 PhD Scholars of Karnavati School of Research (KSR) along with 384 students of Bachelors of Design and 89 students of masters of Design from Unitedworld Institute of Design (UID); 116students of BBA Honours from Unitedworld School of Business (UWSB), 73 students of BA Honours and 5 students of BCom Honours of Unitedworld School of Liberal arts and Mass communication (USLM); 101 students of BDS and 22 students of MDS from Karnavati School of Dentistry (KSD) and 71 students of BBA, LLB (Honours) from Unitedworld School of Law (UWSL).
